Book Recommendations

I’m often asked what books I recommend. So, I’ve compiled a list of my favorites (some old and some new). I will update it occasionally, so check back. ๐Ÿ™‚

Children’s Books

The Day the Crayons Quit You will find your own personality somewhere in this hilarious story with a great message.

The True Story of the Three Little Pigs The classic story from a fresh perspective. I laughed out loud.

You are Special This self-esteem building story is so beautiful it made me choke up while reading. It’s a celebration our differences.

Tuesday This book is virtually all pictures. It tells a fun story and inspires creativity.

The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales Fun twists on classic tales.

Llama Llama Red Pajama This was my daughter’s favorite. Adorable and true.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs One of my favorites when I was a kid.

Magic Treehouse Books My son’s favorites. If they get hooked, there a ton of books in this series.

The Giving Tree Everyone needs to take this story to heart.

Middle Grade

Harry Potter Need I explain this? ๐Ÿ™‚

The Witch of Blackbird Pond Wonderfully written historical fiction that takes place in early America.

The Outsiders The first book I stayed up all night reading when I was 11.

Gwendolyn and the Seeds of Destiny Do you love The Chronicles of Narnia? If so, get this trilogy. Great message, tons of adventure, and a dragon.

Young Adult

My Lady Jane Love The Princess Bride? Get. This. Book. Hilarious and snarky adventure that will keep you guessing. (Also, best audiobook ever).

Scorpio Races One word: Beautiful

Clockwork Angel Urban fantasy set in Victorian England. I’ve read this more than once.

Under the Never Sky Trilogy After solar flares wreck the world, a girl of privilege and a boy seen as a savage must work together to survive.

Shatter Me Series Dystopian with an innovative style. Beautiful writing. Super hot kisses.

Shadow and Bone (Grisha Series Book 1) A dark and powerful world filled with magic wielding people. One of the best first chapters I have ever read.

If you like Hunger Games, City of Bones, and Twilight, you’ll like my urban fantasy series. It starts with The Unintended (book 1) or the prequel, Allure.

Classics & Modern Classics

The Count of Monte Cristo Betrayal and revenge at its best. One of my all-time faves.

The Princess Bride This will always be in my top five.

Fahrenheit 451 I liked this in high school. I LOVED it when I reread it as an adult.

Books on Writing

Save the Cat It’s for screenwriting, but incredibly helpful for all writers

Zen and the Art of Writing: Essays on Creativity Sage advice and insights.

Nonfiction for High School: A Sentence Composing Approach This will brush up adult writers, as well as, teens.

Letters to a Young Poet Gorgeous and thoughtful.

You can also check out my creative writing books. The Prompt Me Series is clean enough for teens and sophisticated enough for adults.

Poetry (Non-Stuffy Kind)

The Princess Saves Herself in this One This has everything.

All the Words are Yours: Haikus on Love Swoon-worthy.

100 Selected Poems by ee cummings All of my favorites except one. (i carry your heart) You can print it and tape it in. Ha.

New Adult & Adult

I do not recommend these for younger readers. Mature content.

Court of Thorns and Roses Series Retelling of Beauty & the Beast in a wonderful fantasy world filled with fae.

Mercy Thompson Series This paranormal romance series is pure fun. Fast reads.

Outlander Historical fiction with a time travel twist. Epic. 

The Time Traveler’s Wife Unique storytelling that had me spinning.


I do not recommend these for younger readers. Mature content.

Austenland A Jane Austen experience in modern day. Love. (One of my favorite movies too)

Whine with Cheese Admittedly, my college bestie wrote this, but I am a true fan. This is funny and smoking hot. Rawr.


Young Adult Fiction: My Lady Jane. HILARIOUS.

Memoir: A Very Punchable Face. I actually did a spit take.

Memoir: I Take My Coffee Black. Socially relevant and all the feels. You will laugh and cry.

Non-Fiction: How to be Fine. Inspirational. Something all women should listen to.

Non-Fiction: Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered. LOTS of laughs, snark, and tear-jerking, poignant moments.
